Robin Hood airport in Doncaster today celebrates its third birthday, marking the success of the airport as a gateway to the region and the rest of the world. Since 2005, the airport has grown at a rapid pace and, just three years on, it now serves 50 airports around the world (compared to just 17 in 2005) and can expect to handle at least a million passengers per year. The airport serves a range of both established and upcoming holiday destinations and significantly, it is the only airport in the area which offers flights to the emerging Polish destinations of Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Katowice and Warsaw.

Formerly the base for RAF Finningley, Robin Hood airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the country, well ahead of other more established regional airports. Since opening as a commercial airport, it has been used by 2.9 million passengers with an increase of almost 13% in use over the last year.

Over the past three years, the airport has also been central in improving economic growth to Doncaster and the surrounding area. According to Nick Smillie, Sales Director based at Robin Hood, the airport “is key to attracting inward investment and tourism growth, as well as serving business and leisure travellers from the region.” He continues, “our objective now is to build on this success by delivering further growth, including more routes to popular international destinations.”

I regulary collect my family from Robin Hood Doncaster. As of yesterday they closed the drop off and pick up zones. You now have to take a ticket and enter the car park as I did today. My family collected their luggage and found me with countless others in the car park. As i approached the barriers to exit, someone infront of me doing exactly the same as I had,had an expired ticket, no one could reverse as now other cars had pulled in behind the growing queue to exit. By the time this gentleman had paid for his ticket mine had also expired which left me no option but to go to the terminal and pay, much to the dismay of the other drivers who were now going to be in the same situation as myself, with an expired ticket. Robin Hood is doing itself no favours by closing this area, they are causing turmoil and chaos and I dread to think what this will be like in the busy summer months!!. No other airport I have been to has this system and I have to say my family is looking to fly from elsewhere in future unless the bosses at RH see sense and realise just what they are going to loose in revenue from disgruntled passengers, for those who have returned from holiday and just want to go home, now will have the same problem as I have and I am sure this will not go down well!! The credit crunch obviously isn't a problem for RH or they wouldn't be turning revenue away by annoying their would be passengers. Mike Morton needs his morals looking at or firing!
